Mariama Sow
Color consultant and studio lead
Runs the consults and keeps the family wall. Her first question is always which rooms get the afternoon light.
House painters and color consultants in Boise, Idaho
Foothill Color Studio paints the inside of Boise homes. A color consultant sits down with you in the new house, the estimators price what you chose, and the crew paints before the furniture arrives.

The family wall
Every consult starts at this wall. Each family has a few undertones, and the hour is for holding them up against your light, your floors and your couch.

From a gallery white to a butter cream. The same white reads blue in a north room and yellow in a west one.

Gray with some tan in it. The easy base for a whole house while the furniture is still in boxes.

Cool and quiet. Good in rooms with morning sun and warm wood floors.

Dark and saturated. We paint a large sample board first, because teal moves between a chip and a wall.

The hardest color to pick from a chip. We look at it on the wall in the morning and again at dusk.

Warm pinks and earthy oranges that sit well with high-desert light and tan stucco.

Greens with gray in them settle next to wood floors and houseplants.

Clear, saturated color for a kid's room, a door or a laundry room. Pick one place to use it.

Reds with blue in them: dusky and moody, and better in rooms you use at night.

The deepest family. Dark colors can take an extra coat, and the estimate says how many.

Pale pinks with a little tan keep a room warm without reading as pink.

Warm and loud. One wall goes a long way.
The color consult
Pick a time on our booking page. Mariama or one of the estimators comes to the house with sample boards, and you leave with three colors to live with for a week before anything is ordered.
For new movers
An empty room needs less masking, no moving and a clean floor to start on. If your closing and your move-in are a few days apart, we plan the paint around them.
Consult and walk-through at the new house
Patch, caulk and prime while the rooms are bare
Floors, windows and vents covered
Walk-through with you before the movers arrive

Who comes to the house
Three people write down what you see. The crew paints it.

Estimator, walls and ceilings
Measures every room, checks the walls and writes the estimate line by line.
Estimator, trim and built-ins
Counts the doors, casings and shelves most people forget, and tells you what each one involves.
After the move
“We picked the colors on the living room floor, between boxes. Three weeks later the rooms looked like the boards Mariama had left us.”
“Sungmin counted the doors and closets I would have forgotten. The estimate listed every one, and the finished price matched it.”
“I didn't know I wanted a green bedroom until I held the sample board up at four in the afternoon.”
Sample reviews.
Where we paint
Consults and estimates are in Boise and the edge of Ada County. If your address isn't listed, send it and we'll say.

We don't take work in Canyon County or east of Barber Valley.
Before you book
We bring sample boards, look at each room in your light and talk through the colors you already own: sofas, floors, art. You leave with a short list and a time for the estimate.
No. Most new owners arrive with one photo and a feeling. The wall of color families on this page is where the hour starts.
Usually, if the dates allow. Tell us your closing and move-in dates and we'll say what fits. Rooms that are empty are quicker to prepare.
We state the consult fee when you book, before the visit, and the estimate says whether it is credited toward the job.
Federal rules apply to paid work that disturbs paint in homes and child-occupied buildings built before 1978. Tell us the year when you book. The firm's EPA firm number is listed under Credentials on the About page.
Not ready to book?
Write to us and we'll reply with a time to talk, or to see the rooms.
